Mark 10

And he set out from there and went into the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and multitudes came together to him again. And again, as was his custom, he began to teach them.

And some Pharisees came to test him, asking him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”

And he answered and said to them, “What did Moses command you?”

And they said, “Moses allowed us to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.”

But Jesus said to them, “Due to the hardness of your hearts he wrote you this commandment.

But from the beginning of creation he made them male and female.

and the two will become one flesh, so that they are no longer two, but one flesh.

Therefore, what God has joined together no human is to separate.”

And when they were in the house again, the disciples asked him about this matter.

And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her,

and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

And they were bringing little children to him so that he could lay his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them.

But when Jesus saw it, he became angry and said to them, “Allow the little children to come to me. Do not hinder them, because the Kingdom of God belongs to people who are like these children.

Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child, he will absolutely not enter it.”

And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

And as he was going out onto the road, a man ran up to him and knelt before him and asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit life in the age to come?”

And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.

You know the commandments: Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not defraud, and honor your father and mother.”

And he said to him, “Teacher, all these things I have kept from my youth.”

And looking at him, Jesus loved him and said to him, “You lack one thing. Go, sell everything you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. And come, follow me.”

But when he heard these words, he looked sad and went away grieved because he had many possessions.

And looking around, he said to his disciples, “How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter into the Kingdom of God!”

And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus continued to teach, saying to them, “Children, how hard it is to enter into the Kingdom of God!

It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich person to enter into the Kingdom of God.”

And they were even more astonished, saying to each other, “So who can be saved?”

Looking at them, Jesus said, “It is impossible for people but not for God, because all things are possible for God.”

Peter began to say to him, “Look! We have left everything and followed you.”

Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left their house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property because of me and because of the good news,

who will not receive a hundredfold now in this present time (houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and property, along with persecutions) and in the age to come—everlasting life.

But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.”

And they were on the road going up to Jerusalem and Jesus was going ahead of them. And they were amazed, but those who followed were afraid. And again he took the Twelve and began to tell them the things that were about to happen to him:

“Pay attention! We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the experts in the law and they will condemn him to death. And they will hand him over to the Gentiles,

and they will mock him and spit on him and flog him and kill him, and after three days he will be raised from the dead.”

And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approached him, saying to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask you.”

And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?”

And they said to him, “Grant us this request: that one of us may sit at your right hand and one at your left in your glory.”

But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?”

And they said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you will drink, and the baptism that I am baptized with, you will be baptized with,

but to sit at my right hand or at my left hand is not mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.”

And when the ten heard it, they became angry with James and John.

And Jesus called them to himself and said to them, “You know that those who are recognized as rulers over the Gentiles abuse their position over them, and those in high positions abuse their authority over them.

But it is not so among you, instead whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant,

and whoever wants to be first among you must be a slave to all.

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

And they came to Jericho. And as he went out from Jericho with his disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus (“the son of Timaeus”), a blind beggar, was sitting by the road.

And when he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.”

And many were rebuking him so that he would be silent, but he kept crying out all the louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me.”

And Jesus stopped walking and said, “Call him.” So they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be encouraged! Get up, he is calling you.”

And tossing aside his outer garment, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.

And Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Rabboni, I want to regain my sight!”

And Jesus said to him, “Go. Your trust has healed you.” And immediately he regained his sight and began to follow him on the road.
