Psalms 12

The Faithful Have Vanished

Help, O Yahweh, for the godly person has come to an end. For the faithful have vanished from among humankind.
They speak deceit, each person to his neighbor. They speak with flattering lips and with a double heart.
O Yahweh, cut off all the flattering lips and the tongue that speaks boastful things,
who have said, “With our tongue we will prevail. Our lips are our own. Who is our master?”
“Because of the devastation of the afflicted, and because of the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says Yahweh; “I will set him in safety from those who malign him.”
The words of Yahweh are pure words, like silver refined in a clay furnace, purified seven times.
You, O Yahweh, will cover them. You will guard them from this generation forever.
The wicked strut about, back and forth, when what is vile among humankind is exalted.
