And the children of Israel again did what was evil in the eyes of Yahweh when Ehud was dead.
So Yahweh sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan who reigned in Hazor, the commander of whose army was Sisera who lived in Harosheth-hagoyim.
And the children of Israel cried out to Yahweh, for he had 900 chariots of iron and 20 years he severely oppressed the children of Israel.
Now Deborah, a woman who was a prophetess, wife of Lappidoth, she was judging Israel at that time.
She was sitting as judge under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went up to her for judgment.
And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-naphtali and said to him, “Hasn’t Yahweh the God of Israel commanded you? Go and deploy your troops at Mount Tabor and take with you 10,000 men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun,
and I will deploy against you, at the brook Kishon, Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his multitude, and I will give him into your hand.”
Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, then I will go, but if you will not go with me, I will not go.”
And she said, “I will go, yes, go with you; but it will not be your glory on the road on which you are going, because Yahweh will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” And Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh.
So Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali together to Kedesh, and 10,000 men went up at his feet, and Deborah went up with him.
Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, from the children of Hobab the brother-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far away as the oak in Zaanannim, which is by Kedesh.
And they told Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone up to Mount Tabor.
So Sisera called together all his chariots, even 900 chariots of iron, and all the people who were with him, to go from Harosheth-hagoyim to the brook Kishon.
Then Deborah said to Barak, “Arise! For this is the day in which Yahweh has given Sisera into your hand. Hasn’t Yahweh gone out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with 10,000 men behind him.
And Yahweh threw Sisera and all his chariots and all his army into a panic with the mouth of the sword before Barak. And Sisera got down from his chariot and fled away on foot.
But Barak pursued after the chariots and after the army to Harosheth-hagoyim, and all the army of Sisera fell by the mouth of the sword; there was not a man left.
However, Sisera fled away on foot to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite, for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.
And Jael went out to meet Sisera and said to him, “Turn aside, my lord, turn aside to me; do not be afraid.” So he turned aside to her, to the tent, and she covered him with a blanket.
And he said to her, “Please give me a little water to drink; for I am thirsty.” And she opened a skin-bottle of milk and gave him a drink, and covered him.
And he said to her, “Stand at the entrance of the tent, and if any man comes and asks you, and says, ‘Is there any man here?’ that you are to say, ‘No.’”
Then Jael, Heber’s wife, took a tent peg and took a hammer in her hand and went silently to him and drove the peg into his temple, and it went down into the ground; now he had been in a deep sleep and exhausted. So he died.
And behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him and said to him, “Come, and I will show you the man whom you are seeking.” So he went in to her tent, and behold, Sisera lay dead with the tent peg in his temple.
So on that day God subdued Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.
And the hand of the children of Israel pressed harder and harder against Jabin the king of Canaan until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.
